The "Africentric Approach to Restorative Justice in Nova Scotia" research project seeks to reduce the overrepresentation of African Nova Scotians and Black people of African descent in the criminal justice system. The project will study whether the current restorative justice practices in Nova Scotia are meeting the needs of Black communities and will explore the need for culturally relevant, race-conscious justice processes. This project is funded by the Law Foundation of Nova Scotia.
The focus group will involve up to 15 participants, who will each receive a $75 honorarium for their time, along with dinner provided. The session will last approximately 2 hours.
The focus group will be held on Monday, November 4th, 2024, at Menelik Hall
(88 Laurier St, Sydney, NS) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Doors open/food served at 5:30 PM.
Please join the African Nova Scotian Justice Institute in shaping an Africentric Restorative Justice Program tailored to serve the Black and African Nova Scotian communities.
